‘The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other’ To Play at Cal Poly May 10-12, 17-19
SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cal Poly’s Theatre and Dance Department will present a production of Peter Handke’s experimental play “The Hour We Knew Nothing of Each Other” at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, May 10-12 and May 17-19. All performances will take place outdoors in the University Union Plaza on the Cal Poly campus (weather permitting).
Directed by Josh Machamer, this playful, imaginative, nonverbal event includes a parade of more than 300 motley characters passing through an urban square — in this case, the UU Plaza. Several varied, mini, dreamlike stories play out before the audiences’ eyes for just the brief time that it takes the actors to cross the stage.
“This play is a panoramic display about the art of observation and the stories that exist within our daily comings and goings,” Machamer said. “Join us for this out-of-the-ordinary theatrical event under the stars — and lights.”
Music and sound is broadcast to audience members through individual wireless headsets provided by the company Silent Events, a cutting-edge production company specializing in Silent Discos and other wireless headphone events.
This is the third of three shows of the Theatre and Dance Department’s 2011-12 Mainstage Season.
Tickets are $12 to $15. For ticket information, call 756-2787. Two forms of identification (e.g. driver’s license, Cal Poly I.D., and/or a credit or debit card) will be necessary to obtain the wireless headphones for the production.
