Before Silent Events hits the road again, we would like to thank Bonnaroo and everyone who helps make the festival’s Silent Disco the party that it is – the amazing DJs, the raucous crowds, and the tremendous volunteers – for creating yet another outstanding year for the Silent Disco. This was the eighth straight year that we have been a part of this event and it just keeps getting better every time we do it. Thank you!

The great thing about Bonnaroo coming to a close each year is that pictures and videos start spreading like wildfire. As always, we invite those who attended the Silent Disco to share with us what they captured through either our Twitter account or our Facebook page.

In the meantime, we’d like to share some of what we have found over the last week.

Nashville’s daily newspaper The Tennesseean does a great job year to year capturing the sights and sounds of Bonnaroo. Among the images the publication caught on Night 2 of this year’s festival are a few from the Friday night Silent Disco.

Twitter user @Emilieus shared this picture she snapped of DJ Jazzy Jeff doing his thing at the tables during the first night’s Silent Disco.

And speaking of DJ Jazzy Jeff, he left no doubt as to what he thought about his first Bonnaroo Silent Disco experience.

Ok…excuse my language but…The Silent Disco @ Bonnaroo was the Dopest Shit I Ever Did…WOW!!!!

Our friend DJ Logic also got into the social media act Tweeting a picture from his spot behind the tables.

Vacationer helped kick the whole thing off with a DJ set Thursday afternoon and shared this Vine of the crowd heating things up early.

Back in June, we shared with you that Athens, GA based Pretty Road Cases had put together custom cases for Silent Events. Since that first post, Pretty Road Cases has shared some additional photos of their work for Silent Events. Below are some of those pictures of the new equipment in the warehouse and out on the road at Bonnaroo and the Vans Warped Tour.

The folks over at MRI Lightpainting were at the Gawker Media Hush Silent Disco inside the New York Public Library on Thursday, August 9 to provide a photo booth for participants to have their picture taken. As you can see by the image below, this photo booth was a little different than what most people are used to.

As posted on the MRI website, “…the idea was to actually incorporate the DJ in the photo booth. Guests jumped in the booth, pretended like they were scratching records while we light painted them, and afterwards they could get a little DJ tutorial if they wanted….”

MRI posted a few of its photos along with a brief recap of the evening on its website and posted more than 100 of the night’s photos in its Flickr account.

Silent Events was on hand once again as Gawker Media held its annual Hush Silent Disco on Thursday, August 9. This year, however, the event was held in a very unique setting: inside the New York Public Library. Among the DJs spinning during the night were Dapwell of Das Racist, DJ Kalkutta, and Yeasayer.

Various media outlets and blogs were on hand to document the event.

Ryan Dowd, owner of Silent Events

After seven years of putting on Silent Discos for Bonnaroo, Silent Events owner Ryan Dowd is bringing the electronic experience to Warped. In case you aren’t familiar, a Silent Disco is a deejayed dance event where the participants can only hear the music by wearing a pair of headphones—so to outsiders, it just looks like a bunch of people dancing to silence. This is Silent Disco’s first year at the mostly punk fest. Dowd thinks that “even the type of kids who come to Warped secretly are getting in to some electronica. It’s so hugely popular how could you not?” He described the Silent Disco experience as “very intimate but also really communal. You can take off the headphones and have a conversation with the DJ, where at any other club you’re just shouting, ‘What? What?'” He noted the “sport of people watching” is part of the fun. “When you’re walking by and watching 300 kids throwing down and you don’t hear what they’re dancing to, it looks really cool.” Wick-It the Instigator—who impressed Big Boi by mashing up one of his songs with the Black Keys—is one of this year’s DJs, so if you’re headed to Warped, you might want to grab one of the 300 pairs of available headphones and learn what it’s all about.

Silent Events once again returned to Bonnaroo to help throw their annual Silent Disco. Mark Foster, a founding member of the band Foster the People, put in some time DJing at this year’s Silent Disco. Some members of the audience grabbed the video and snapped the pictures below. We appreciate their documentation of the silent disco and sharing it with the public.

Silent Disco Allows Fans To Dance In Peace

The festival’s Silent Disco is as much fun to watch as partake; a sea of silent, moving bodies all dancing to a DJ’s set on individual headphones. This year saw guest sets by Foster the People’s Mark Foster, Penguin Prison and K. Flay among others. Best overheard quote-cum-paradox by one Bonnaroovian: “The Silent Disco sounds like it’s rockin’.”
